Vaughn "Hit-N-Miss" Gas
Engine
This Vaughn engine was machined from a Debolt Machine castings
kit. The bore is 1.750" with a 2" stroke and the flywheel
is 9" diameter. A side shaft with the governor also operates
the exhaust valve and the ignition timing. The 5/8" diameter
crankshaft is hard chrome plated and runs in babbit bushings.
All parts that are painted green, plus the flywheel are castings.
All else was machined from bar stock. All the brass parts except
the big rod end were nickel plated. Ignition is by mechanical
low tension "make and break" contacts in the head. I
added a set of "spark saver" contacts that are operated
by the exhaust valve linkage. The fuel tank, which incorporates
a removeable fuel filter in the tank end, holds 3-1/2 ounces of
fuel that will run the engine over 4 hours.
